Your Move Penn State Votes Exhibit

For Penn State Votes, a system was created of a gamified experience students to better understand the voting process in a way that is stress free and rewarding. Using a pond scene to create a sense of calmness and familiarity, allows us to contrast the modern day voting initiatives which are typically loud and demanding. Our mission is to encourage civic engagement from the student body, especially students that may not know about voting or are uninformed and anxious but curious.

The logo showcases the idea of reducing anxiety by putting the process of voting in the students hands rather than forcing an idea upon them. The design includes paths to emphasize the calm movement and no sharp edges to feel approachable.

Customizable Keychains

These keychains represent earth, water, air, and light because each element represents a feeling we want students to experience throughout the installation, such as calmness, grounding, ease, and confidence.

Throughout the experience, students can choose stickers at each stage to customize their keychain. Spreading these customization options across different levels encourages students to continue through the installation while also making the keychain feel like a final reward for completing the journey. It also has a tactile surface which functions similar to a therapy sticker.

The dragonflies can be moved, like in this smaller scale model, revealing small pockets behind one or two of them that hold stickers. The small scale model is an example of most of the dragonflies , which will contain information about the registration process and outline what you’ll need to complete the form.

Level 4:
Interactive Wall Display

The final part of the experience is the interactive wall, where students can make their move. They can locate a simple instructional sign on the left, choose a lily pad sticker, write their name on it, and place it inside our logo. This symbolizes their commitment to voting and making an impact. The watercolor design matches the rest of the installation, creating a calm and welcoming environment. A simple instruction sign next to the wall makes the activity easy and engaging. Altogether, it provides a memorable ending that encourages students to take action and make their move.
